ʟɪꜱᴇ ᴍᴇɪᴛɴᴇʀ Lise Meitner was an Austrian physicist who made significant contributions to nuclear physics. She was born on November 7, 1878, in Vienna, Austria, and passed away on October 27, 1968, in Cambridge, England. Meitner is best known for her work on radioactivity and nuclear fission. Meitner collaborated closely with chemist Otto Hahn, and together they conducted pioneering research on nuclear fission. In 1938, they discovered that bombarding uranium atoms with neutrons could cause them to split into smaller atoms, releasing a large amount of energy. This groundbreaking discovery laid the foundation for the development of nuclear power and atomic weapons. Despite her significant contributions to the field, Meitner faced discrimination and was not awarded the Nobel Prize for her work on nuclear fission. Instead, Hahn alone received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1944 for the discovery. However, Meitner's contributions have been widely recognized, and she is considere...
